Physically located in the mid-south of the Caribbean Sea, Aruba and Curaçao are two of the four countries that form the Kingdom of the Netherlands, along with the Netherlands, and Sint Maarten. Commonly referred to as the Netherlands Antilles, Dutch Antilles or Dutch Caribbean, today, the constituent countries of Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten are known as the CAS islands, and the special municipalities of Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba have been named the BES islands. While Dutch and Papiamento are Aruba and Curaçao’s official languages, the majority of the population also speaks English and Spanish fluently.
Aruba
This One Happy Island has a population of approximately 125,000 and measures 32 kilometers (20 mi) long from its northwestern to its southeastern end, and 10 kilometers (6 mi) across its widest point. Aruba’s highest elevation is 617 feet and is known as the Jamanota Hill, located in the National Park Arikok. Curaçao
Home to over 55 different nationalities, Curaçao has an elongated shape, orientated northwest to southeast, measuring 61 km (23 miles) in length with a maximum width of 14 km (5 miles). Located in the north-western part of the island you will find the Christoffelberg (“Mount Christoffel”) which is the highest elevation of the island, at 375-meter (1,230 ft). Curaçao is the most “Dutch” of its Caribbean sister islands: Aruba, Bonaire, St. Eustatius (Statia), Saba and St. Maarten. Next to the main island there is a small, uninhabited island named Klein Curaçao. The capital, Willemstad, is known for its candy-colored buildings and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, one of the few found in the Caribbean. A perfect incentive destination!
